Who Intends to Enroll in Entrepreneurship Education? Entrepreneurial Self-Identity as a Precursor

2018

Entrepreneurial self-identity is attracting increasing attention as a potentially relevant variable in explaining the entrepreneurial process. So far, most research treats entrepreneurial self-identity as a consequence of, or, at the most, as being developed through the start-up process. Our hypotheses are tested on a sample of Italian university students and graduates ( N = 88) with no previous participation in…

Is the Theory of Entrepreneurship Applicable to Franchising?

2010

This essay takes an entrepreneurship viewpoint toward franchising. The applicability of the general theory of entrepreneurship presented by Shane (“A general theory of entrepreneurship. The individual-opportunity nexus”. Edward Elgar, Cheltenham, 2003) is explored in the franchising context. Shane introduced a model of the entrepreneurial process in response to the failure of prior research to provide one. According to Shane, prior research has tended to look at only part of the entrepreneurial process, with the result that no general theory of entrepreneurship has been developed. Studies that consider franchising as a form of entrepreneurship are rare, as are studies on the entrepreneurial…

2019

How do entrepreneurs set a price for digital innovations they develop and market? This is an important question in current information society where digitalization is making established pricing models outdated. In this study, we focus on this issue by examining what kinds of activities and resources entrepreneurs possess when pricing digital innovations. Based on five case studies, including 37 interviews with key decision makers involved in the pricing process, we found that pricing of digital innovations can be conceptualized as an entrepreneurial process in which the pricing capabilities are developed based on the resources at hand. In this view, the pricing model is adjusted through neg…

The entrepreneurial process: The link between intentions and behavior

2020

Abstract Entrepreneurship has been widely studied in recent decades, and it has been linked to other research areas such as social psychology. Remarkable contributions have combined these fields to explore how to predict entrepreneurial intentions. Building on previous research on the factors that predict students' intentions to start a business, this study explores the link between intentions and behavior. The aim is to ascertain whether university students have genuine intentions to start a business and see themselves as capable of doing so. This study draws upon Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior to examine the role of students' and/or prospective entrepreneurs' skills and capabilities. …

Effective decision-making is critical for entrepreneurial success due to constantly changing customer needs. To contribute in filling this knowledge gap, a visual performance management tool called Obeya was adapted and utilised during an entrepreneurial process, and its impact on decision-making during the process was qualitatively explored.
